BEIRUT: Anti-regime Syrians in Deraa held commemorative marches and other events to mark the fourth anniversary of their country’s uprising, which is marked on a different day in the southern province. Activist groups posted several items of video footage of the activities, which took place in the provincial capital and several towns and villages. For the majority of supporters of the uprising, March 15, 2011 – the date of large anti-regime demonstrations in Damascus and Aleppo– is used as the date to mark the start of the uprising. But many Deraa-based supporters of the uprising employ March 18, the first nationwide Friday protest, held under the slogan “Dignity.” Regime forces used live ammunition to break up the protest, killing several.
